About Back Pain
If you are experiencing back pain, you are not alone. In fact, about 80% of adults experience lower back pain at some point in their lifetimes. Did you know that the statistics indicate that more than 25% of adults reported experiencing lower back pain just in the past 3 months?
There's nothing more annoying than having the thought of pain creeping into your daily life. Furthermore, if you experience the pain, you will understand the frustration of not knowing how long it takes to recover without medical treatment.
When experiencing back pain, the first reaction most people take is that they turn to over the counter pain medication or application of topical anti-inflammatory gels hoping that the pain will go away in a matter of days. It works if the pain is just a minor sprain.
The big problem with this approach is that these methods only mask the pain temporarily to allow the body to heal. As for people with acute pain, they may further aggravate the damage to their lower back if they do not seek professional care. It renders the medication or topical quick fixes useless because it does not treat the root cause of the issue that is causing the pain.
Without proper treatment, you end up trapped in a web of uncertainty because you think that you have to restrain yourself from daily activities or you spend the initial phases of recovery by resting in bed all day thinking that it will help you to recover faster when in fact, it may cause more problems later on.
We know that a large portion of Malaysians still resort to visiting a local clinic to have your lower back pain checked because it is what you normally do when you feel ill. If your pain is acute, the likely scenario is that you will be given medication and asked to rest. If your pain is chronic, you are likely referred to a hospital for medical imaging and diagnosis. For prolonged severe cases, the dreaded surgery could be the only option to treat the pain.
What people need to know is that these extreme approaches are a passive treatment. Either you are having to take medications to mask the pain or you have to go through complicated medical procedures that are invasive for severe cases. You do not have much control over your body under these circumstances, so there is very little you can do in the middle if you simply rely on passive treatment.
The fact is, none of these passive methods are favourable for a patient because passive treatments force you to play defence on either extreme of the treatment options. You are told to be mindful of your condition, and so it keeps you from your active lifestyle leaving you in manageable pain but with restrictions and things you can’t usually do like you used to enjoy.
And it's for this reason, you might just save yourself all the hassle and worrying if you have visited us at Spine and Joint if you need treatment for your lower back pain
We are a team of professional chiropractors and physiotherapists with over 10 clinics nationwide led by Dr Nick Boden, a chiropractor with over 15 years of experience in the industry.
As chiropractors and physiotherapists, we provide treatment for lower back pain that is non-invasive, free from medication or surgery. We perform manual manipulation techniques to help your body naturally heal itself so that you can go on the offence and make the most out of your day.
What sets us aside from others is that we provide an integration of care. You don't have to choose one over the other. You get the benefit of both treatment options depending on your needs, rather than having to settle for the differences between a physio and a chiro.
For new patients, we do a short assessment to know more about your history, and then we do some orthopaedic and neurological tests to confirm the diagnosis. If we feel that you need to take an X-ray or MRI, we will refer you accordingly. Then, you will receive a report of findings which consists of your diagnosis, length of treatment, and treatment protocol. Each session may go on for between 30 to 45 minutes depending on the treatment required for you.
On top of that, we take a hands-on approach to get to know our patients and how they can make the most of their lifestyle. These include:
One to one consultations so that you get an update of your progress
You can ask questions about your lifestyle, what you can do and what you shouldn't do instead of second-guessing your decisions
You are taught active techniques to exercise and strengthen your core muscles to reduce the chances of recurrence so that they enjoy the benefits of lasting care.
We have three phases of care, painful phase, recovery phase, and maintenance phase. To find out more about what we offer, please visit our services page. Essentially, you will receive treatment not only when you are in pain, but also you will receive treatment after you have recovered to increase your resistance to the recurrence of lower back pain.
We treat patients from all walks of life, from children to housewives, working professionals and celebrities. Every patient shall receive the same diligent care in a safe and comfortable environment in our clinics.
Most of you might have probably heard about physiotherapy but not chiropractic care.
And that's a fair question because it is relatively new as a treatment option in the market compared to other medical professions in Malaysia.
A physiotherapist provides manual treatment for a disease, injury, or deformity in the form of a massage, heat treatment, and exercise to help a patient with recovery from conditions such as muscular sprains. On the other hand, a chiropractor specialises in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine. Think of it as a relationship between a tree branch and the leaves where one part complements the other.
At Spine and Joint, you get the benefits of both worlds each visit but you only pay for one treatment. We see this as a huge benefit to our patients because of the increase in recovery rates by combining both treatments into one session.
